Loathe:
- Screaming kids in the library.
- Adults who let their kids scream in the library.
- Cell phones ringing in the library.
- Our network came to a screaching halt when too many employees were watching the MJ memorial online. I wonder how the taxpayers would like that if they knew it. I was trying to do actual work and couldn't get logged into a computer to do it.
Love:
- I had a great July 4th weekend with my two best friends who came to visit from Raleigh. Two days on the beach and a fun cookout.
- I took my friends to see the house, and the sellers have moved out so we walked around the yard. I found a gardenia bush by the front porch. Yay!
- We finally got new employees for 4 positions that had been empty for a really long time. We are almost fully staffed.
- Since we are getting new people, I get to change my schedule to a better one and stick one of the newbies with my old schedule.
Loathe:
- Asshole patron who got mad at me and a co-worker for refusing to give him legal advice.
- Not enough time in the day to do everything.
- We are not getting a dog right away after moving into our house because we can't go home at lunch to let it out. :(
Love:
- When the patron mentioned above complained to the manager, she backed us up.
- My cute and cuddly kitty, Madeline, who is snuggling with me right now.
- My cold is almost over. I can breathe without the aid of Sudafed.
- It's less than a month from the closing date for our house!
Loathe:
- It's the perfect dark and stormy night to snuggle up with a book on the couch, but I'm a work.
- Cable news channels. Dan watches them in the morning, and they just make me mad. American Idol is not news!
Love:
- We had our home inspection this morning, and there were only minor things on it, like a door that needs to be adjusted and a piece of loose siding.
- We will not be getting cable when we move so there will be no more cable news to watch.
- The Sims 3. I broke down and bought it, and it is an improvement. No more loading screens when your Sim needs to go out of the house.
- Maybe the storm will knock the power out to the library, and I can go home! This is a long shot, I realize.
Loathe:
- Coming back to work after a three day weekend.
- House hunting is a game of hurry up and wait. Very nerve-wracking.
- The Credit Union where we are getting our mortgage closes every day at five and doesn't do mortgages on Saturdays.
Love:
- We might have found a house to make an offer on if Dan likes it (I've already seen it). We're going to see it tomorrow.
- Our cookout with my family was fun.
- I got some really pretty yarn this weekend at a local yarn store. I'll post a picture soon.
- Chuck got renewed!
I haven't posted much other than moblog pictures lately so here's something different. Not much to loathe on this very pretty day:
Loathe:
- Have to work until 9 tonight.
- Had to go to the OBGYN on my morning when I usually go to the gym and relax before work.
- Got 6 months of my birth control as samples at the doctor. That's worth $150 in copays.
- I'm healthy!
- My boss had money left over in the training fund so I'm taking a Business Reference class online through ALA for free.
- Pumpkin Smoothies!
- Thanks to a productive Sunday, I have a clean and tidy apartment.
- We are looking at houses and planning to look seriously in July so there is an end in sight for living in a tiny two bedroom apartment stuffed with what was in a three bedroom townhouse before. I can picture myself out on my screened-in porch (we will build one if the house doesn't have one) with a glass of iced tea and a book. I'm ready to put my grandparents' old glider to work!
- Even though our names were on the deed for the townhouse we will qualify for the first time home buyer stimulus money because it has been three years from the date of the purchase.
- I cooked a bunch last night and will have Chicken and Grits from the crockpot for lunch and Roasted Tofu and Vegetables with Cous Cous for dinner. Yum!
Boo:
- One of my coworkers does nothing but complain all the time, and I am losing patience with this.
- The city will not be giving cost of living raises this year.
w00t:
- The city will not need to do layoffs. This makes the no raise situation much more palatable. At least I have a job.
- Coldplay concert in May!
- Rock Band 2 - SOOO fun.
- I'm almost done with the Murakami book. It is getting really gripping near the end.
- Once I finish it, I have two Sookie Stackhouse books on my nightstand from the library!
- I ran for 25 minutes at the gym yesterday - a personal record for this non-runner. I guess I should say it was really a slow jog. Better than nothing, right?
- Doctor Who - Just finished Season 1. Can't wait to start the next one, but will miss Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor.
Loathe:
- A girl walked up to the reference desk on the second floor (where our children's section is) and asked me if I wanted to buy Girl Scout Cookies. Her mother was standing behind her with a box of cookies! I explained nicely to the girl that you can't sell things in the library. How could her mother think that was appropriate?
- I am working 3 nights this week instead of one due a career fair and a teen program. Blah. Looking forward to the programs, not to working so many nights.
- Cold weather is back.
Love:
- I've been going to the gym almost every day, and I feel great! I even got up early on my evening so I'd have time to work out before work.
- Since I'm the "young one" on the reference staff, I get to represent the library at a career fair tomorrow night. I'm going to recruit some librarians! I have candy to lure them away from the other careers.
- I'm reading The Wind Up Bird Chronicle by Murakami, and it is really good.
- My homemade guacamole.
- I found a new podcast - The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe. Cool science stuff.
Loathe:
- Authors who use sentence fragments for emphasis. It only emphasizes how bad they are at writing. You'd better be good if you are going to ignore the rules of grammar.
- Girl Scout cookies are not a diet food.
- Cold weather.
Love:
- I finally got the second Sookie Stackhouse book on hold!
- Girl Scout cookies.
- Dr. Seuss books.
- Doctor Who on Netflix Instant Watching.
- I have not lost my gym motivation yet since it's right next to the library.
- I can jog for 20 minutes without stopping to walk!
I haven't done this in a while so here goes.
Loathe:
- Getting off work at 9 tonight and then riding for 9 hours in the car to Albany for Christmas.
- I'm going to freeze my southern ass off while I'm there. They don't know the meaning of HEAT there.
- I've eaten way too much holiday food. Can't wait to get back to normal eating. I feel bloated.
- In telephone reference, I had to explain why the Public Library does not accept telemarketing calls. Dumbass.
Love:
- 5 day vacation starts after work tonight!
- I'll get to see SNOW for Christmas!
- I'm almost done with the 50 in 365 challenge.
- Dan got a full-time job at a medical school in the area doing the job he really wants to do.
- Since we both work full-time now, we might actually be able to live in a house one day where we won't be able to hear our neighbors' bass.
Loathe:
- No matter what source you use to answer a bet settling reference question, some people will not believe you if you don't find the answer that makes them the winner.
- Some students think it is my job to do all of their research for them. Or think of a topic for them. One kid came up and said, "I need to read a biography of an inspiring person." Then looked at me blankly when I said, "OK, well, who inspires you?"
Love:
- A kid ran up the stairs that bring them to eye level at the reference desk next to the children's section. He pointed at me, and said, "Mommy, she is the one who shows you where everything is!"
- I get five days off in a row due to the way Christmas falls. The mayor gave the city the day after Christmas as a holiday at the last minute.
- Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani. I am reading this right now, and it is such a fun book. I'm glad there are several sequals to it.
