I went to see this tonight, and I was actually not as excited as the friend I went to see it with. BUT - when the music started, my heart started beating faster, and I got ridiculously overexcited over a 2.5 hour chick flick.
Oh, it was wonderful. Everything I hoped for and more. It could have been 3 hours, and I would have been happy.
Basically, if you loved the show, you'll probably love the movie. If not, you won't. I'm not sure what the critics were expecting.
I won't say anything about the plot, but I will say I laughed (a lot) and cried (a lot).
It was filmed to look like a movie from the time period, and it really worked and felt authentic. Gretchen Mol was fantastic, as were all the secondary actors. Great performances from the entire cast.
And it was FREE because my library has DVDs!
Crowe and Bale are fantastic in this movie. They played off each other very well. Every review I've read notes that they are two of the best actors of our time, and that's absolutely true. Crowe plays the charming criminal, Ben Wade, to perfection, and I found him quite sexy even though he's not typically my cup of tea. Bale was great as the family man who is trying to save his family from starving and losing their land to the railroads. Of course my feelings about his sex appeal are no secret to my Vox hood.
The rest of the cast was great as well. Ben Foster was so good as Charlie Prince that I didn't even realize who he was. I had to look him up on IMDB, and I thought, "Oh, it was THAT guy?!" Alan Tudyk was great as the kind hearted Doc Potter.
The scenery was beautiful as expected. That is one thing I've always liked about westerns. My suggestion is to go see this movie even if you're not sure about it. It actually makes me want to check out more of the genre. I see Unforgiven in my near future.
It's a shame that they left newcomer Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin) off the movie poster because he really stole the show. "Chicka Chicka , yeah."
I suggest seeing this one on DVD or in a second run theater if you aren't sure if you'll enjoy a lot of juvenile humor. Knocked Up was the summer comedy for adults, this one is for teens.
Oh yeah, I forgot about this funny story. There was a dad sitting in the front row with his son (about 12 years old), and they got up an left after ten minutes. Don't go with your kids to see this one. It would be an embarrassing time for all. And your 12 year old is probably too young for this one with or without you there.
Go. See. This. Movie.
I just got back from seeing The Bourne Ultimatum, and I don't think my heart rate has gone back to normal yet. This movie grabs you from the very first second and keeps on going until the end. This is one of the best movie trilogies of all time, and what makes it unusual is that the last movie was the best one. The first two were excellent, but nothing compared to the adrenaline packed film I just saw.
By providing the moviegoer with excellent character development, the screenwriters (and Robert Ludlum of course) have created an action flick that I can sit through without yawning. You can pack a movie with car chases and fight scenes, and I won't give a shit if I don't care about the main character. Matt Damon was excellent. There were several lines in the movie that he performed with perfect delivery. Several times I was laughing, clapping, and cheering along with the rest of the theater.
I love that they didn't try to "bring in the women" by creating some contrived love story. We're not stupid, one tender love scene in the middle of an action flick does not interest me.
This is by far the best movie of the summer, if not the year. Make sure you catch it while it's still in theaters.
As much as I love James Bond, I would rather have Jason Bourne in my corner if someone's after me.
I stayed up way too late last night finishing up a sewing project. I really need a wall clock in my craft room. While working on the project, I watched some movies.
Classic movie with Cary Grant = movie heaven for Bookishly Fabulous.

OK, now that I've told what I thought about it, let me tell you two reasons why you might not like it:
1 - You didn't watch the cartoon as a kid.
2 - You're not interested in seeing what amounts to a really expensive toy/car/cell phone commercial.
It was a bit slow in the beginning, and I thought some of the stuff in the first 45 minutes could have been cut. That could be because I saw that part twice due to the bomb scare the first time I tried watching it. Once all the Autobots show up, it starts kicking ass and doesn't stop until the end.
I told Dan I want a robot car for my birthday. Although I'd rather have an Aston Martin spy robot car with young Sean Connery as my sidekick. A girl can dream.
The scenery in the movie is absolutely breathtaking, and the director did a good job of putting just enough animation in the movie to give it a whimsical feel. Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor worked really well together in this film. He always has a bit of a twinkle in his eye, which was perfect in this story.
For any of you who might have been fans of Monarch of the Glen, Lloyd Owen (Paul, Archie's half-brother) is in the film as well. It took me a while to figure out where I knew him from.
The song below plays during the credits and is sung by Ewan McGregor during the movie. I love it and bought the soundtrack on iTunes right after I saw the movie. The score is beautiful.
I just remembered that I've seen two movies in theaters and didn't blog about them!! So here ya go.
First, Knocked Up. So freaking hilarious! Don't get a huge soda or you'll wet yourself. Paul Rudd has several scenes that are fantastic. His best line:
Marriage is like a tense, unfunny version of Everybody Loves Raymond, only it doesn't last 22 minutes. It lasts forever.
There were a lot of kids in the theater of course. It's funny to see what they laugh at in the movie. There were definitely jokes that went over their heads where you only really heard adults laughing.
