How do you travel to and from work - personal vehicle, bus, subway/train, pedal power? What does it cost you per week in gas or fares?
Submitted by Jan.
I work only 6.5 miles from my apartment. For that reason, I drive my personal vehicle. I'm thinking of buying a bicycle and trying that out, one of these days, but I just haven't gotten around to planning out my route. I take the freeway the whole way there so I have no clue what city streets I could take.
Average : 28 mpg (I think, its difficult for me to figure this out)
Tank size : 14.5 gal
Average miles per tank : 406Work mileage : 13 miles
Trips to work per tank (if I did nothing but drive to work...) : 31
Last cost of fill up : $50Cost of round trip to work : $1.60? ($50/406*13?)
How do you choose your Vox neighbors and friends?

Its a combination of writing style, how often they post, and how big their neighborhood is.
- I generally do not add people who pass up on proper grammar and punctuation (it doesn't have to be perfect, I make mistakes ALL the time) - simply because it's hard and confusing to read their posts. Skipping on capitalizing sentences and using an abundance of "txt" language is annoying :(
- If someone posts one a month, I usually do not add them unless their once-a-month posts are really good and spark some kind of creativity in me or a great conversation in many. The reason why? Because I'm an active blogger and I like people in my neighborhood who are too. Active blogging usually results in more personal posts rather than soapbox posts.
- People how have pages upon pages of listed neighbors means the possibility of them reading and relating to my posts are very minimal. I like to make friends, not build networks.
None of these ideas are set in stone though, and I have a few neighbors that break all these points :) Also, I have a rule that I first add someone as a "neighbor", then once I get to know them (which usually only happens if they post often and we can comment back and forth) I move them up to "friend" if I feel like I can be honest with them and they wont judge me about it. I don't always make the best decisions and my blog is a place for me to write about all decisions whether good or bad. The only people who are listed as family are people I know in real life and know my real name stuff like that.
Quick update on THINGS...
I'm running away for the rest of the week! Friend and I are going up to Chicago. Just for fun. See what's to be seen. It's probably going to be swelteringly humid and hot. Lucky us there's nice big air-conditioned museums to bum around in. :)
Also very excited about my trip in October. I haven't told my parents yet. They read this blog so we'll see if they mention it to me before I get a chance to tell them. (Hi Dad!!) Yes, I'm going to try the solo traveler thing! To the UK! I'll be meeting up with people I've met through Tim Minchin's fan club (such lovely people there) so it's not like I'll be COMPLETELY alone. I'll get to run around Cardiff for a couple of days, getting my Doctor Who/Torchwood sites fangirl fill, and I'll be seeing Tim perform in THREE shows - one in Cardiff, another in Canterbury, and a last one in Bristol. I'll be using Britrail to get from place to place. And I'm also going to try staying in a hostel in Canterbury (it's got such huge rave reviews - I figure, I've tried the bed & breakfast thing once, I need to try a hostel once in my life as well.) I'm mega-excited and really looking forward to the trip!! If all goes well, perhaps next time the husband and I can plan our Great Britain trip using the rail as transport, too.
I've also ordered an iPhone! At last! You should all be very proud of me for waiting and not jumping on the 1st gen bandwagon. I've been looking for a phone that has all the features of the iPhone, and none of them do. So, why not just get the iPhone? Duh. Also, I can use it overseas! Brilliant.
Hmm, what else? I'm still enjoying my Kindle - I've now downloaded more books than I can read onto it. OH that reminds me - I was going to see if I could download some travel books and thus not have to lug any around in Chicago and England. Whee! Technology is grand.
Show us a music video that tells a great story.

If you could take a class right now and learn anything in the world, what class would you take?
I'd learn how to cook! I'm terribly intimidated by cooking in general and I know that if I were more familiar with the terms & techniques I likely would feel better about trying out recipes. I have this book, "Eating Well Serves Two" and I find recipes I want to try but if it's got a lot ingredient list and a long prep list I get really discouraged.
Okay, so I've decided not to get the short curly-fringed wig for my new girl, but then I ran across this other wig and have to decide again! I have decided I think I'm going to get the Milk Carmel color though, so at least I'm not completely indecisive :P

Not only that, but I'm really hating Icahan because he's treating it like something that should just be sold off and not really a company that has employees and company interests.
When he starts "blasting" Yahoo because they're concerned about who will be running the company - I'm terribly confused. I would want to know that too! I mean, why would I sell my company if I didn't know who was going to run it afterwards? Why? Because I just didn't care.
I think that Yahoo does care, and I hope they stick it out.

I'm finding I'm not as captivated by the book though, because I've seen the movie. I've just passed the part where Lyra is taken to the village and finds what the alethiometer was trying to tell her (not trying to give away too much to those who haven't seen the movie or read the book *cough* LG *cough*) and I know that was supposed to be a really tense & emotional part of the book but it just wasn't for me.
Also, the one thing that I'm not connecting with in regards to the story is the idea of dæmons. I know what they are and all that - I'm just not grasping onto and believing it as the story seems to be needing me to. I hope that as the story progress I begin to warm to it more as I feel it will be really important as the series goes on.
All in all, I feel it won't be hard to continue and finish this series :)
