In an article about reading classics on the beach, Jack Murnighan nails the reason I love Wuthering Heights:
Wuthering Heights is a great book for women to go back to and read again. It's compelling, romantic, creepy, gripping and well-written. And if you know it was written by a woman who more or less was never allowed out of her house, you wonder, how did she came up with these crazy characters? How did she come up with all this drama and all this intensity? And you realize, wow, she must have been smoldering inside.
Loathe:
- Asshole patron who got mad at me and a co-worker for refusing to give him legal advice.
- Not enough time in the day to do everything.
- We are not getting a dog right away after moving into our house because we can't go home at lunch to let it out. :(
Love:
- When the patron mentioned above complained to the manager, she backed us up.
- My cute and cuddly kitty, Madeline, who is snuggling with me right now.
- My cold is almost over. I can breathe without the aid of Sudafed.
- It's less than a month from the closing date for our house!
Loathe:
- It's the perfect dark and stormy night to snuggle up with a book on the couch, but I'm a work.
- Cable news channels. Dan watches them in the morning, and they just make me mad. American Idol is not news!
Love:
- We had our home inspection this morning, and there were only minor things on it, like a door that needs to be adjusted and a piece of loose siding.
- We will not be getting cable when we move so there will be no more cable news to watch.
- The Sims 3. I broke down and bought it, and it is an improvement. No more loading screens when your Sim needs to go out of the house.
- Maybe the storm will knock the power out to the library, and I can go home! This is a long shot, I realize.
I'm a few days late in posting this. The sellers sent us a counter offer on Wednesday, and we accepted it on Thursday. Our inspection is on Tuesday so we're keeping our fingers crossed that nothing major comes up. It probably won't because they just bought the house last year, and are moving for a job transfer so they would have had an inspection just a year ago.
Here's the house. It's 4 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms on a corner lot, and all hardwood and tile floors. No wall-to-wall carpet! w00t!
And the beautiful kitchen they just spend a bunch of money renovating. It sucks for them that they had to move after spending so much money on the house. We got lucky since it's a buyer's market. We bought it for the same thing they bought it for last year even though they renovated the kitchen. I can't wait to cook in here!
We made an offer on a house last night so we are waiting to hear from the sellers. We know that we are the only people making an offer and that the house has been on the market for over 3 months. So we're probably going to get it as long as we can come to a good number.
The frustrating thing is that we know they are not going to accept our first offer because we offered low on purpose. Why does it have to be that hard? We know about what they'll probably take for it, and we know that we are willing to pay that as long as they pay our closing costs. Sometimes the middle man (our agents) seems to make things harder. BUT I would never do this without an agent because I'd be so stressed out trying to do it myself.
So now I get to wait around and jump everytime my cell phone vibrates.
Today is Repeat Day, so we want to know: what song do you have currently have on repeat? Bonus points if you share it with us!
This song has been in my head all morning. I heart Ray Lamontagne.
This house hunting thing has taken over my life so I've been slack about stopping by the 'hood. Here are some pictures from a Coldplay concert we went to two weeks ago. All I can say is to buy tickets if they are coming anywhere near you because the show was amazing! Their new album really lends itself to a live performance, and they played pretty much the whole thing.
One funny thing was the Navy flyovers during the performance. They weren't really noticeable during most songs, but during Fix You, Chris Martin just started giggling because the jets drowned him out. He recovered and worked it into the song with a lyric about the Air Force flying in or some such thing. This proved my point to Dan about why we are not looking at houses in jet noise zones at the beach. If they can drown out a concert, you don't want them over your house.
We had really good seats, which you can't tell from these blurry pictures from my point and shoot camera. I've seen them before, but from the lawn. This time we decided to splurge on seats under the cover, and it was really worth it since we are such big fans of the band. I've been to a lot of concerts so I don't really get that excited about them anymore, but when the band came out on the stage, I was so excited I couldn't contain it! So much fun! They came out into the audience twice, which was really cool. I hope they come out with a DVD from this tour.
Pete Yorn was the opening act, and he was really, really good too.
Loathe:
- Coming back to work after a three day weekend.
- House hunting is a game of hurry up and wait. Very nerve-wracking.
- The Credit Union where we are getting our mortgage closes every day at five and doesn't do mortgages on Saturdays.
Love:
- We might have found a house to make an offer on if Dan likes it (I've already seen it). We're going to see it tomorrow.
- Our cookout with my family was fun.
- I got some really pretty yarn this weekend at a local yarn store. I'll post a picture soon.
- Chuck got renewed!
I'm part of a blog put out by my library system that posts reading recommendations. If you're interested, the link is:

We're just starting to post regularly because we finally got permission from the library to do it officially. My week will start June 22. Reviews of Unwind and Monsters of Templeton are already there. If you read this blog, they will look familiar because they are just rewritten from here.
Lovely house and rockN kitchen, congrats! I suppose I should check up on Vox more often. read more
